Vocational Programs Would Be Replaced

The Bush administration has proposed abolishing all federal vocational-education programs, saying they have "produced little or no evidence of improved outcomes for students despite decades of federal investment."

The president's budget plan for the 2007 fiscal year, which was released last week, would eliminate the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education program, which is receiving nearly $1.3-billion in federal support this year. About 40 percent of the money goes to
