Virginia's Ban on Alcohol Ads Violates Free Speech, Federal Judge Rules
Virginia's ban on alcohol advertising in college newspapers violates the First Amendment, a federal judge has ruled.
The decision was a victory for the student newspapers at the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech, which the American Civil Liberties Union had represented in the case. The plaintiffs had claimed in a lawsuit that the state regulation unconstitutionally censored the newspapers and limited their ability to compete with other publications for advertising
