Seung-Hui Cho, the deranged student who killed 32 people and himself at Virginia Tech in April, fit the behavioral profile of a criminal type known as the “Collector of Injustice,” according to an analysis by federal authorities that is described in today’s Washington Post.
The analysis, by agents in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, says that the prototypical “Collector of Injustice” blames all of his problems on other people and feels duty-bound to avenge those slights in a vendetta against the entire society in which he lives. Under this working theory of the gunman’s motives, he did not single out any of his victims. —Andrew Mytelka
