Virginia Tech Chooses Lawyer With 9/11 Experience to Distribute Money for Shooting Victims

A lawyer who oversaw compensation for families of people killed in the September 11 attacks will help Virginia Tech distribute $7-million in donations received by the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund since Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people, and himself, on the morning of April 16.

The lawyer, Kenneth R. Feinberg, is donating his time for job, the university said in its announcement. Of the money in the fund, about $1-million was given for specific purposes. The balance is available for distribution to the families of those who were killed in the massacre, as well as to those who were injured but survived and those who suffered psychological harm.

Mr. Feinberg, who was special master of the $7-billion September 11 compensation fund, will work with representatives of the families to create criteria for distributing the money, according to The New York Times. —Lawrence Biemiller
