Virginia Legislature Votes to Bar Colleges From Dismissing Suicidal Students
Virginia's legislature has unanimously approved a bill that would prevent public universities from expelling or punishing students when they exhibit suicidal behavior or seek treatment for suicidal behavior or thoughts.
The bill, which appears to be the first of its kind nationwide, injects the state into a difficult debate over how much responsibility and latitude universities should have in handling suicidal or depressed students. The legislative effort came in response to several
