Virginia Lawmakers Approve a 20% Cut in Public-College Tuition

Virginia legislators last month approved a 20-per-cent cut in tuition at public colleges, one of the deepest reductions by a state in recent memory and a sharp change from the large tuition increases at the colleges in the early 1990s.

Gov. James S. Gilmore III, a Republican, is expected to sign the budget measure, which also includes $75.5-million for institutions to fully replace revenues that will be lost
