Views of 'Objective Truth,' and Their History

To the Editor:

I was disappointed by Michael P. Lynch's "Who Cares About the Truth?" (The Chronicle Review, September 10). The essay seemed to me to be both misguided and wasted on your audience. I am confident that your readers already care about the truth, even on political issues.

While some individuals may be glad that the United States invaded Iraq, deeming that action desirable with or without the presence of weapons of mass destruction, why does the author assume that
