In Staging Flash Mobs, Colleges Replace Zombies With Warm Fuzzies

College flash mobs were once quirky and subversive. Now they're the PR tool du jour on college campuses.

Very interesting phenomenon; sort of the modern American Bandstand: I like this school because it has a great beat and you can dance to it?

Now that they have become a PR photo op, flash mobs have jumped the shark. At least the ones that are officialy organized.

I've always wanted to be part of a flash mob, but I'm never invited.

How are these things organized, anyway? How are the organizers able to keep it under wraps for so long?

For a little fun here is one from Poland. Watch for how the students work in a representation of the various programs. Quite creative.

In case any readers other than those we've heard from are confused by the presentation of this feature, please know that the photos here all correspond to the Bollywood flash mob produced by Oregon State University and noted in the seventh paragraph of the story, NOT the other OSU discussed in the story's first three and final paragraphs. The original video of the Oregon State flash mob was the most widely watched piece on YouTube's Education channel for the month of October. Collectively, videos of the performance have drawn more than 160,000 views and climbing. We're proud of the students, faculty and staff who took part in this, and even more proud that they did so in celebration of Diversity Awareness Month at Oregon State.

12107096 - No one cares about the Flash mob at Oregon State. No was confused by the story only by your comment. Ohio State is the REAL OSU. Go Buckeyes.
