Venezuelan Universities Say New Law Breaches Academic Autonomy

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez signed into law on Saturday legislation that many university leaders say will give the government unreasonable control over schools and universities.
Cecilia García-Arocha, rector of Venezuelan Central University, the nation's largest public university, was quoted by the Agence France-Presse news service as saying that the law would mean "control of, and impose ideological and political absolutism on, the universities'
