The Louisiana Community & Technical College System’s Board of Supervisors approved today a plan to reorganize the system’s 40 technical-college campuses, which are now branches of one institution, and move them into regions, allowing the colleges to coordinate educational programs and consolidate administrative functions, the Associated Press reported this afternoon. The plan, which was pushed forward by a law enacted last year (The Chronicle, July 15, 2005) and hastened by a budget crisis brought on by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (The Chronicle, November 23, 2005), is designed to save millions of dollars as well and is part of a range of efforts to remake higher education in the state (The Chronicle, March 10).
