Uzbekistan Opens Islamic University
A new Islamic university opened in Uzbekistan's capital this month.
Tashkent Islamic University is a state institution established under a decree issued by Islam Karimov, president of the former Soviet republic in Central Asia.
"The university should work for the preservation of Islam's spiritual legacy and carry out research in the religious field," he said at a ceremony marking the opening of the institution.
