University Student Charged in Plot to Bomb Trans-Atlantic Flights

British authorities today formally charged 11 of the 24 suspects detained this month in connection with an alleged plot against trans-Atlantic flights, and eight of the suspects—including Waheed Zaman, a former president of the Islamic Society at London Metropolitan University—face charges of conspiracy to murder and a new offense of “preparing acts of terrorism.” Mr. Zaman is a 22-year-old biochemistry student at the university (The Chronicle, August 14).
