University Says Unrest in Kenya Is Likely to Affect Summer Program

Violence in Kenya over its disputed elections has claimed more than 1,000 lives so far, disrupted Kenyan higher education, and forced American colleges with summer programs in the country to decide whether it’s safe for them to operate there.

Today one more American institution announced that it was likely to stay home. Western Kentucky University sent out a news release saying that it was “highly unlikely” that its program in wildlife-biology research would be offered this summer. A university spokesman said he thought about 25 students could be affected. —Thomas Bartlett
