University Research on Homeland Security Gets Slight Cut From Senate Panel

The Senate Appropriations subcommittee that oversees the budget for the Department of Homeland Security approved a bill on Tuesday that would provide the Office of University Programs with $50-million in the 2007 fiscal year, slightly less than the $51.97-million approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and requested by President Bush. The office is receiving $63-million in the current fiscal year, which ends on September 30. The full Senate Appropriations Committee will consider the bill on Thursday.
