University-Press Group to Study Whether Books in Some Fields Are Disappearing; Non-Profit Journals Are Found to Be More Cost-Effective Than Commercial Ones
If you've had trouble finding a publisher for your specialized research, perhaps you've chalked it up to the death of the monograph. Editors may have gently told you that the shrinking library market has made it harder to publish books written in your field: There just are not enough readers. Even at university presses, though, some still argue that the monograph is alive and well.
