University President From U.S. Is Stranded in Lebanon

The Rev. Lawrence Biondi, president of Saint Louis University, has been trapped in Beirut, Lebanon, by attacks this week by Israel, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Father Biondi had traveled to Lebanon to meet with religious leaders and, among other things, to deliver a commencement address at Notre Dame University there. That event has been postponed. The president is said to be safe but, like thousands of other visitors to Lebanon, unable to leave because of major damage to the Beirut airport by Israeli attacks, a naval blockade, and a closed highway to Syria.
