University Leader Flees Sri Lanka

Following weeks of death threats, the vice chancellor of the University of Jaffna has fled Sri Lanka with his family, having never set foot on the campus since his controversial appointment.

Ratnajeevan Hoole, a former engineering professor at Harvey Mudd College, in California, was named in March to run the only university in the Tamil-minority northeastern region of the country. But his nomination by several academics and final selection by the Sri Lankan president was immediately
