University Group Recommends New Limits on Conflicts of Interest in Research
The Association of American Universities has proposed new, broader guidelines to govern conflicts of interest in research by individuals and the institutions that employ them.
The organization has recommended that in medical and other studies involving people, no investigator with a financial interest in the research should participate, "except in compelling circumstances." In those situations, the group says, institutions should take extra steps to oversee the researcher's involvement
