Universities of Michigan and Texas Will Require Applicants to Take a Writing Exam
The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and the University of Texas at Austin said this month that they would require all undergraduate applicants to take a proctored writing exam, beginning in spring 2005 -- a move that many other colleges are expected to follow.
The decisions come after ACT Inc. and the College Board, which owns the SAT, announced last summer that they would add writing sections to their tests, beginning in 2004 and 2005, respectively. While the two tests will
