Universities in Japan Reap First Profits
Japan's national universities chalked up profits of more than $1-billion last year, the first year they were allowed to earn and keep profits, according to a report issued last month by the government.
Osaka University headed the list of profit makers, with earnings of $64.5-million. The University of Tokyo came in second, with $63.5-million. Only one of the 89 national universities failed to make a profit -- Gifu University, which incurred a loss of $11.8-million, mainly because
