Unfulfilled Pledge of $112-Million Forces College in California to Scale Back Major Plans
A regent's reneging on a $112-million pledge -- one of the largest unrealized gifts ever promised to an institution of higher education -- has forced Saint Mary's College of California to delay major construction plans.
Conrad Colbrandt, a regent at Saint Mary's, had anonymously pledged a series of donations to the college beginning in 1997 that were to total $112-million. He informed the college in August that the money would not be forthcoming.
