Unfinished Business in Congress
Student visas
Gist: Pending legislation would place new restrictions on the issuing of some student visas and require college and federal officials to more closely track the movement of foreign students in the United States.
Outlook: Democratic and Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee introduced a compromise bill last month that is likely to begin moving through Congress early in 2002. College lobbyists back the bill, which they say will help plug potential holes
