U.S. and Britain Urge Human-Genome Researchers to Publish Their Data Freely
President Clinton and Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain last week called on all researchers who are decoding the human genome to publish their data freely and rapidly, whether their work is financed with private or government funds.
The announcement followed an impasse this month in talks between publicly financed researchers and officials of a company called Celera Genomics about jointly creating a free public database of DNA sequences.
