U.S. to Review Web-Browser Patent Held by U. of California
In a potential blow to the University of California and a private software company, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has ordered a re-examination of a patent on Web-browser technology.
If the office decides that the patent was granted in error, then the university's $520.6-million patent-infringement verdict against the Microsoft Corporation could be revoked.
At issue is the ability of Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser to launch and display plug-ins and applets
