U.S. Reaches Visa Limit for Foreign Academics

The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service announced last week that there would be no more temporary visas available until October for foreign professionals, including those who work in academe.

The fiscal-year ceiling has been reached on H-1B visas, which can be awarded to foreign professionals seeking to work in the United States for up to six years. About 10 to 15 per cent of those visas are awarded to
