U.S. Proposal Would Expand Requirements That Doctors Protect Patients' Privacy
The Clinton Administration last month proposed new regulations that would broaden requirements that academic researchers protect the confidentiality of patients' medical records.
In addition, the proposed regulations would, for the first time, require institutional panels to review all privately financed research, including studies that universities pay for themselves, to insure that patient records were not improperly released.
