U.S. Office Rules Against U. of California's Web-Browser Patents
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office released a ruling in August to invalidate 10 patents on Web-browser technology held by the University of California.
The ruling -- the second part of a three-step process -- reaffirms a preliminary finding, issued in March, that threw into question a $520-million patent-infringement verdict that the university won against the Microsoft Corporation last year (The Chronicle, March 19).
