U.S. May Relax Ban on Aid for Those With Drug Convictions
The U.S. Education Department is considering softening a ban on student aid for those convicted of possessing or selling illegal drugs. The department may issue rules to apply the ban only to those convicted of drug violations while in college, not those convicted prior to enrollment, Congressional sources say.
In recent weeks, Rep. Mark Souder, the Indiana Republican who wrote the original provision, has been meeting with department officials and urging them to direct the provision
