U.S. Foundations Expand Aid to African Higher Education
Six major American foundations are providing $200-million to strengthen African universities over the next five years, the expansion of an effort begun in 2000. The foundations were set to announce the decision last Friday in New York at a ceremony in which United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and the presidents of Ghana, Kenya, and Mozambique were scheduled to participate.
