U.S. Finds Harvard Did Not Exclude Asian Americans
Action opens debate on fairness of preference for alumni children
Washington, D.C. -- The Education Department has concluded that Harvard University does not discriminate against Asian-American applicants.
Many Asian-American leaders attacked the finding, saying that clear evidence of a discriminatory policy had been uncovered and then ignored. But department officials said the policy in question -- granting preference in admissions decisions to children of alumni -- was perfectly legal.
