UConn Violated Animal Welfare Act
The University of Connecticut admitted to more than 50 violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act and agreed to pay a $129,500 fine and make several major policy changes as part of a settlement reached with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Jim Rogers, a spokesman for the department, said he believed it was the first time in the 36-year history of the law that a research facility had admitted to violating it.
