About twice as many black students plan to enroll as freshmen at the University of California at Los Angeles this coming fall as did last fall, according to today’s Los Angeles Times. Officials attributed the increase in black freshmen, 203 this fall compared with 103 last fall, to a more holistic admissions process and a privately run $1.75-million scholarship fund reserved for African-American students. —Jeffrey Selingo
