U. of Wisconsin Foundation and Geron Corp. Settle Stem-Cell Lawsuit
The patenting arm of the University of Wisconsin at Madison announced last week that it had settled a federal lawsuit with the company that financed the institution's pioneering studies of embryonic stem cells. Wisconsin officials said that the agreement guaranteed that academic scientists will have access to the university's stem cells.
The settlement grants university and government researchers the rights to existing patents without paying royalties or fees. Wisconsin officials say
