U. of Washington Pays Up for Failed Ghana Trip

The University of Washington has refunded $2,500 to each of 17 students who took part in a study-abroad program in Ghana last summer that ended early because of several problems, including the medical evacuation of eight of its participants.

The events that disrupted the five-week program, "Sustainable Development and Modes of Empowerment in Northern Ghana," remain the subject of an internal review, University of Washington officials said.
