U. of Washington Is Tops Again in Peace Corps Volunteers

For the third year in a row, the University of Washington produced the most volunteers for the Peace Corps, according to a news release issued this week by the international-service agency.

The university has 104 undergraduate alumni serving in the Peace Corps. Second on the list, in the large-schools category, is the University of Colorado at Boulder, with 102 volunteers, and third is Michigan State University, with 89.

George Washington University led the list in the medium-schools category, with 57 volunteers, and the University of Chicago again led among small schools, with 35. The rankings for 2009 are similar to the results from last year.

The Peace Corps determines the categories based on the size of each college’s undergraduate enrollment. Small schools have fewer than 5,000 undergraduates, medium schools have 5,001 to 15,000, and large schools exceed 15,000.
