U. of Utah Defies State Law Allowing Concealed Guns on the Campus
The University of Utah is continuing its ban on firearms, in defiance of a state law intended to force it to allow concealed weapons on the campus.
The state law, adopted last month, forbids local entities from restricting gun use or ownership by individuals. State Sen. Michael G. Waddoups, a Salt Lake City Republican, sponsored the bill to protest the university's gun ban, which he regards as an attempt to usurp the Legislature's authority.
