U. of South Carolina President May Run for U.S. Senate
John M. Palms, president of the University of South Carolina, may try to nab the Senate seat of the retiring Republican Sen. Strom Thurmond.
In a letter sent to the university's Board of Trustees last month, Mr. Palms indicated that he was thinking about seeking the Democratic nomination in 2002.
