U. of Oregon Picks U. of Kansas Provost as Top Choice for President

The top finalist for the University of Oregon’s presidency is Richard W. Lariviere, executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of Kansas. The Oregon State Board of Higher Education will have a final say on Mr. Lariviere’s candidacy after he visits the campus, university officials said today.

A former dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Lariviere holds a Ph.D. in Asian studies from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been provost at Kansas since 2006. If hired, Mr. Lariviere would take over from David B. Frohnmayer, Oregon’s president since 1994, on July 1. —Paul Fain
