U. of North Texas Charges Students $30 to Clear Worms From Computers
The University of North Texas took an unusual approach to combating the Blaster worm and its fast-spreading look-alikes, which crippled college networks as students returned to campuses. The university charged a $30 fee to students who brought infected computers to campus technicians for cleaning up.
The charge helped recover some of the cost of the repairs, which the state university had not planned for in its computing budget for the residence halls, said Kirk Kelly, computer-system
