U. of Nevada at Reno Pays Federal Fine for Violations of Rules on Animal Care
The University of Nevada at Reno has paid a fine of $11,400 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violating rules governing the care of animals in research.
The case unfolded after a faculty member, Hussein S. Hussein, filed whistle-blower complaints with the agency starting in 2003. Mr. Hussein, an associate professor of animal biotechnology, has said that the university retaliated against him for filing the complaints, but a separate investigation by the Agriculture Department
