U. of Missouri Loses Tuition Case
Citing an obscure 1879 statute, a state judge in St. Louis ruled in December that the University of Missouri System had violated state law for 15 years by charging tuition to in-state undergraduates.
While the judge has not yet imposed a penalty, the ruling could cost the system up to $500-million in damages.
Judge Kenneth M. Romines, of the Circuit Court for St. Louis County, ruled that the university system's four branches -- at Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla, and St. Louis
