U. of Minnesota and Researchers May Receive Up to $300-Million in Patent Settlement

The University of Minnesota and two of its researchers stand to receive an estimated $300-million in royalties over the next 10 years, after settling a lawsuit with the pharmaceutical company Glaxo Wellcome over patent rights related to a new anti-AIDS drug.

Mark Rotenberg, the university's general counsel, said the settlement, announced this month, was among the largest ever for a university in a patent dispute. The company, based in Research Triangle Park,
