U. of Minnesota Returns to Bargaining Table With Striking Workers

Clerical, technical, and health-care workers who have been on strike for two weeks at the University of Minnesota reopened contract talks today with the university, the Star Tribune reported. A university spokesman said that the number of strikers had dwindled in recent days and that the workers had sought to return to the bargaining table. Classes have not been disrupted, but on Monday a group of students, faculty members, and others began a hunger strike in sympathy with the workers. The contract dispute, which stems from differences over wages, prompted protesters to interrupt a meeting of the university’s Board of Regents. —Andrew Mytelka
