U. of Minnesota Reorganizes Athletics Program and Cuts 3 Teams

The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is merging its men's and women's athletics departments and will drop the men's gymnastics and men's and women's golf teams at the end of this year, officials announced this month. The controversial moves are part of a plan to save the Golden Gophers an estimated $9.5-million over the next five years, cutting into a deficit projected to reach $21-million over that time.
