U. of Michigan Faculty Endorses Postponing Stadium Renovations

The faculty senate at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor urged university officials on Monday to reconsider work on a $226-million stadium upgrade, according to the university’s student newspaper, The Michigan Daily. The renovations, which were officially approved by the Michigan Board of Regents this past summer and are slated to begin next month, would add scores of new luxury boxes to both sides of Michigan’s football stadium.

The faculty vote follows a lawsuit by the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America, which claims that the stadium will have inadequate provisions for handicapped fans. A trial has been set for September 2008. —JJ Hermes
