U. of Michigan Averts Strike by Teaching Assistants
The University of Michigan and the union representing 1,400 of the campus's graduate teaching assistants reached a tentative agreement this month on a three-year contract.
The last-minute deal was a surprising turnaround after negotiations between the university and the Graduate Employees Organization had broken down. University officials had declared an impasse, and union leaders had begun to gear up for a strike.
