U. of Miami Cultivates a $5-Million Gift for Nursing
At the University of Miami, serendipity and a nimble, carpe diem sensibility resulted in a $5-million gift to the nursing school.
In December 1998, a university trustee alerted Michael D. Rierson, Miami's vice president for advancement, to an imminent visit by Theodore G. and M. Christine Schwartz. The couple, who have made a fortune from telemarketing call centers, were arriving from Chicago with their son, a prospective student.
