U. of Mass. Seeks to Acquire Law School
The University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees has given its go-ahead to a plan to convert the Southern New England School of Law, a small private institution, into the state's first public law school.
The board voted, 12 to 2, in a special session in December to permit the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth to acquire the neighboring law school. But the proposal has generated opposition from private-college leaders and some state officials, who question if a public law school
