U. of Iowa Press Escapes Severe Budget Cuts; 4 Finalists Emerge as Candidates to Lead University's Prestigious Writers' Workshop
BLUNTED AX: Last fall University of Iowa officials told vocal supporters of the university's publishing program that they did not need to panic. Despite rumors to the contrary, they said, they had not decided to slash the University of Iowa Press's budget.
Those reassurances have been borne out in the university's announcement that only $20,000 will be pared from the press's annual subsidy of $521,000, and not the $200,000 originally feared.
