U. of Illinois Punts on Chief, Again
For the third time since November, the Board of Trustees for the University of Illinois system has punted on whether to retire the Urbana-Champaign campus's controversial mascot, Chief Illiniwek.
Instead of voting on whether to keep or retire the chief at a meeting last week, the board approved a resolution calling for a "consensus conclusion" to the issue that has divided the campus for 15 years. The resolution said the debate over the chief should be resolved in a way that is
